  • Camera Price Tags

I recently went to the supermarket armed with my paper and pen to record the prices and units of all the items I use when my cell phone rang. That's when I remembered I had a camera on my cell phone.

I went around taking a picture of all of the labels of the items I use and when I got home I was able to make a list at my leisure. It was a lot easier and less time consuming then  hand writing them all in the supermarket.

    It was fast and easy!

  • Dilute Dish Soap

When I get low on laundry detergent, I add a little bit of water, shake and use this when I wash clothes that aren't real dirty.

I also use this same strategy with dish soap.

Another idea is when emptying a bottle of bbq sauce, add water and use this when cooking, for example in baked bbq pork chops.

  • Dryer Sheet alternative

A small bottle of fabric softner last me for about 8 months.  Take an old sock or wash cloth and add 1teaspoon of fabric softner.

  • Every time you put away your groceries, put the price you paid on the bottom of the product. That way you will always know the price you paid and I try to always beat that price.  It's keeps me focused and I never forget prices.

  • grilled applesauce sandwich

Cheap snack for kids!  Take sandwich bread and top with applesauce and cinnamon.  Make a sandwich and butter both sides.  Cook like a grilled cheese sandwich. Sprinkle with sugar and you have an instant apple pie.  The kids love it!

  • meal planning cards

I write down my entrees, sides, desserts, etc. on a separate 3 x 5 card. When it comes time to plan a meal based on what I have in my pantry and/or what's on sale, I can take an entree card, choose a side card, and choose a dessert card, too. That way I can mix and match my selections without having the same things over and over again. Then I put those meals on my menu planner (in my computer) and print it out.  I put that on the refrigerator so that my husband can see what I've got planned.

  • stock up and organize with jars and containers
  • pancakes from scratch

I never buy baking mixes. Just Google recipes for bisquits or pancakes and you will see that it's just flour & leavening (baking powder or soda) and water or milk... maybe a pinch of salt. For pancakes you need an egg, otherwise that's it. You'll save a ton of cash learning to bake for yourself.

  • meat slicer, save on deli ends

If you shop in smaller shops, bakeries or butcher stores you can be lucky and get extreme discounts shortly before closing time or if you buy the end-pieces of sausage or cheese.

I am in charge of a produce co-op.  We shop about ever 4 to 6 weeks (4 weeks in prime season and 6 in off season).

  • Cow Fresh Meat

I haven't purchased store bought meat in over 1 1/2 years. What I don't raise myself, I buy fresh from the farm.  I can get the cuts I want and at liveweights of 50 to 98 cents a pound plus processing—which is usually under 30 cents a pound.
