Money is really tight and with unemployment on the rise, the number of people going to school to “re-tool” is also increasing. This means that students in service industries — hair and nail care, dentists, massage therapy and more — will need people to “practice” on. If you’re willing to take some risk, you can save a lot of dough. You may be surprised about the services they offer.

My husband and I are so excited to finally start our financial recovery using your budgeting system. I am a hospice nurse and could totally relate to the Emergency Room analogy you used in your book. For the first time in our marriage we have financial hope.

My family and I saw you on the Dr. Phil show in March of 2009. Your book, HomeEconomiser Newsletter articles and advice have done nothing but prepare my wife and me for what is happening right now. We took what you said seriously over the past three years and then all of a sudden, the economic downturn hit us — but we felt prepared.

Inspired To Save

I have just finished reading your book – just a few minutes ago!!!! It is incredible. I have several books on personal finance, a degree in business, a Personal Financial Planner designation (from a university, but not a national designation) and I was a credit counselor for some years before settling in as a stay-at-home mom (husband, two sons and a dog). My husband and I both practice a frugal lifestyle and often find ourselves out-of-touch (not to complain) with most of the people we come in contact with about frugality, parenting, our values, etc.

This Is The Life!

fishing boat

This story has been around for a long time, but it bears consideration especially in light of our current economic circumstances. Is progress, really progress?

A fishing boat was docked in a tiny coastal village south of the border. An American tourist complimented the local fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them. “Not very long,” answered the fisherman.

Tough Times And The Honey Weapon

Frugality is finally in vogue. Saving money is the main topic of discussion at work, at school and in the media. So be bold, let people know that saving money is a fun game and that it produces great dividends; more security, more time with family and friends and less stress.

A Killer Coupon Deal

This killer idea was shared with us by Dianne Guastella — Annette’s best friend from grade-school days. It takes some planning, but works like a charm.

We recently were given a new queen-sized mattress. You know, one of those super thick ones that look like you’re re-enacting The Princess and the Pea? As a result, none of our other queen-sized sheets would fit and we needed to buy some new, deep pocket sheets.

I was surprised to get my Home Economiser newsletter in September and see my note that I sent a few months ago. (Sybil had read our book, and with her husband had quickly paid off two large debts and built some savings. Two months later her husband lost his job).

Success

I just wanted to thank you for your amazing book. I happened to see it on a web broadcast on Yahoo. I bought it and have read it at least 4 times now. We implemented many things you said in our lives. Within two months of reading the book, we had paid off two of our major debts — our son’s medical bills and my student loan. We were also putting savings aside at the same time.
