Halloween fun

games, traditions, family, holidays, parties, recreation

We know some people are squeamish about taking their kids out “Trick-or-Treating” so why not borrow some of these ideas that Sharon Ann Burke from Denver, Colorado sent in. These ideas work great as carnival type booths or as party games for a small group of kids. If you aren’t into the scary part of Halloween, most of these ideas can be replaced with a pumpkin theme.

Lights Out
Shoot out candle flames with a water pistol.

The Black Caldron
Fill a big pot full of sand and mix in small prizes and money. See how many each kid can find in 10 seconds.

Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin, Scare Crow or Witch
Draw a picture on craft paper and use a sticker for the nose or cut the shape out of felt and use a Velcro ball as the nose.

Pumpkin or Spider Cookies
Make a batch of sugar cookies and provide colored frosting and sprinkles so the kids can decorate their own. Or make spider cookies using vanilla wafers as a body covered with chocolate frosting. Place M&M’s for eyes and eight pieces of black string licorice for legs.

Jack-O-Lantern or Haunted House Bean Bag Toss
Cut your selected shape out of thick cardboard. Paint or color it and cut out large openings (eyes, nose and mouth or doors and windows). Number the openings and keep track of the points as the kids toss the beanbag through the holes.

Pumpkin Walk (Cake walk)
Cut out construction paper orange pumpkins and write a large number on each pumpkin. Place the pumpkins on the floor and start the music. When the music stops, draw a number from a hat and the child standing on that numbered pumpkin wins a prize.
