WFHM The Fish 95.5 — Holiday Savings
We did several interviews on Fish Mornings with Len and Brooke in November 2006.
Unfortunately we don't have audio, but we do have the notes from the topics we discussed.
Holiday Savings
We covered four areas of savings in this fun interview: Savings on gifts, Clothes, Entertaining and Turkeys
Holiday Gifts:
- Make a List
- Start Now— lots of stores have great sales starting in late October and early November
Holiday Clothing
- Start with what is in your closet already then mix and match: Black Skirts, black pants mix with holiday colors. Solids are best — Red. Maroon, Navy Blue, Royal Blue Royal Purple, Emerald Green, Gold and Silver. Men Red Sweater or Christmas Tie.
- Make a list of events that you’ll probably be attending in December now and think about what you’ll be wearing.
- Consider Thrift and Consignment Stores. Visit TheThriftShopper.com to find a thrift store in your zip code.
Turn Your Thanksgiving Turkey into Great December Dinners
Try these simple turkey left-over meals:
- BBQ Turkey
- Turkey Enchiladas
- Turkey Parmesan
- Turkey Pot Pie
- Turkey Soup
Holiday Entertaining on a Shoe String
- Remember, it’s not about impressing people, it’s about being warm and hospitable.
- Have a plan. Play group games.
- Charades
- Spoons (with a deck of cards and . . . spoons) Instructions here
- Taboo
- Mad Gab
- Apples to Apples
- Uno
- Settlers of Catan (one of our favorites)
- WhooNu (a great game to learn more about other people)
- Pit
- Catch Phrase (we love this game - it's fast paced and always gets us laughing)
People need to laugh more and be accepted. Don't try to be too sophisticated.
- That Holiday Smell Get free pine boughs from Target and Home Depot or any place that sells fresh cut Christmas trees.Put a few small pine bough clippings in a sauce pot with some water and you'll have instant pine scented potpouri.
- Pot lucks are a great option. Keep the menus easy
- Do a white elephant gift exchange These are always fun!
- Host a neighborhood cookie exchange. We've done it for years and have had the opportunity to meet and get to know many of our neighbors.
You can have great holiday celebrations and create fantastic family memories without spending gobs of money.
