From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
Claudia is part of a very busy family and feels as if she is never noticed or cared about. Because she is unhappy with family life, she decides to run away to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She confides her secret desire to her younger brother, Jamie. He immediately tells her that her ideas are crazy. Claudia finally convinces him to go with her. After all, he could be counted on and had a lot of money. So, using a train ticket, that was thrown away by mistake, they head to New York City.
They discover that working together, they can accomplish anything. When they finally reach the museum, they try to remain inconspicuous so that no one will notice them. They even go so far as hiding in the rest rooms and standing on the toilet seats to avoid detection. It is a fun and timeless novel. E. L. Konigsburg won the Newbery Medal for this novel in 1967.
This has also been made in to a movie staring Lauren Bacall. The movie is great fun to watch, but unfortunately it is very expensive and hard to find. To find the movie, checkout these current search results on Amazon, eBay.com and Half.com
