This is a great book if you’re starting out looking for ways to cut your grocery bill. Ronda Barfield and her family were in financial straits and needed to find extra money. By researching and changing her shopping methods she was initially able to save $200 each month. Over time she has fine-tuned her methods and now saves even more. Besides planning a menu, she advocates shopping at alternative stores to find steep discounts and stocking up when an item you would regularly buy is on sale. She also briefly quotes many other great money saving grocery books in areas where she admits less proficiency. This is actually one of the best parts of her book – she has reviewed and named many good sources for money saving ideas and time saving cooking strategies. More than half of the book includes recipes – many with a low fat and healthier bent to them. Barfield admits that her way of doing things isn’t for everyone. Determine if it is a fit for your family by checking it out of the library before you purchase it.
