Finding Coupon Codes Saves Us Big Time Money

We love the internet for finding great deals on top of GREAT DEALS! We've been sick and ran out of Echinacea and Vitamin C. We wanted to wait until Puritan's Pride ran their summer sale, Buy 1 get 2 Free (June or July), but really need those two items to build our immune systems. So we're placing a supplemental order tonight.

Playing Spades

We spent a quiet night at home and played spades last night. Annette was losing and went "blind nil" (so she could catch up).
Imagine her surprise when she found the A, K, Q, and J of spades in her hand. There was no way she could "go nil." She laughed until she cried. . .

Cooking a Turkey Today

Turkey, stock up, saving money

Today the house is filled with the fantastic aroma of a turkey cooking in the oven. Ohh, it smells great. Is it Thanksgiving or some other celebration? No. We cook a turkey about once each month (except for the super hot months of July and August, when we rarely use the oven). Tonight we'll serve a turkey dinner and then freeze the left-over meat to be used in other meals which will be prepared on our once-a-month cooking day.

May 1st is special

For the past 28 years May first has been special for us — it was on this day in 1982 that Annette and Steve said I do. Since we said "I do" we've been saying "We Don't" to debt and paying retail. And our anniversary celebration was no different.

It just doesn't seem like we've been married 28 years — we can still clearly remember our wedding day, the day our first child was born, moving from our apartment to our first house — it just can't be 28 years. We're still laughing, loving and living life to its fullest (maybe just at a little slower pace than in 1982).

Ice Cream Deal on April 28 at Baskin Robbins

ice cream

Our son Joe works at a local Baskin Robbins ice cream parlor. He wanted us to let you all know that on Wednesday, April 28 (from 5 PM to 10 PM) Baskin-Robbins locations nationwide are hosting a 31 cent scoop night to benefit America's firefighters. The Baskin-Robbins Foundations is donating $100,000 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

Home Schooling For Less

Home School

Question: Could you please advise my family on how to keep costs minimal while homeschooling? Our kids are 4, 2, and 11 weeks old. I have taught in charter and public schools, but we are interested in homeschooling. I saw on your main site that you recommend Homeschooling for Excellence. I am reading it now :) However, any other advice on keeping the cost of homeschooling low would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!!

We just saved $88 per month!

quote your car insurance

It's been about four years since we quoted our auto insurance. In that time, we've added one car — daughter Becky bought a gently used Toyota Tacoma (we now insure three cars on our policy) and we've added one new driver — Joe got his license.

When our current insurance company — Response Insurance — notified us that they were increasing premiums in the state of Arizona about 25 percent, it motivated us to start researching before the increase took effect.

Interesting Text Book Cartoon

Our son Joe saw this cartoon last week and brought it to our attention. No, we don't think it's true, but it sure seems like someone is running a racket when it comes to college text books.

This week the board of regents in Arizona announced that our state universities will probably be increasing tuition about 18 percent this year, while the universities will need to cut staff pay and / or positions. All of this because our state is experiencing an extreme budget crisis due to the recession.

The recessions is not over yet!

College Textbooks Make our Blood Boil!!!!

Three weeks ago Steve had a conversation with a woman who works at our local high school bookstore. He asked her how often high school math and English books come out with new editions. She pointed to a shelf full of math books and said that they were close to seven years old. Hmm, seven years huh?

What new information do students get in College Algebra, Trig or Statistics that is so earth shattering that the publishers constantly need to update their editions every year or two?
